Information about the cultural city of Dresden
Dresden is a world-class city of art and culture, whose museums present incomparable collections. They have been among the most famous sights in Europe since the 18th century. Supplemented by grandiose buildings such as the baroque Zwinger, the Residenzschloss, the rebuilt Frauenkirche and the Semperoper, everything adds up to a unique work of art.
More than 40 museums are located in Dresden - many of them world-famous and unique! The Old Masters Picture Gallery with the Sistine Madonna, the Green Vault as the most magnificent treasury museum in Europe, the incomparable porcelain collection of August the Strong and the Mathematical-Physical Salon as a unique collection of historical clocks are a must when you visit Dresden!
The Semperoper with first-class opera performances is famous for its equipment and acoustics. A concert in the resurrected Frauenkirche with its unbelievably lush colors will be remembered for a long time. Our staff will inform you about programmes, opening hours and special exhibitions and will be happy to help you order tickets. Very easy to reach on foot from the hotel: The Golden Rider. The equestrian statue of Friedrich August I, called August the Strong, is located at the entrance to the main street. It shines imposingly in the pedestrian area of the inner baroque new town.
The Neustadt baroque quarter is one of the most beautiful quarters in Dresden today. Absolutely central and yet quiet. This is where people live and work, trade and stop off. In the small shops, galleries, studios, boutiques, jewelry workshops and restaurants are the owners themselves. Advice, quality and service are very important here. The residents of the city like to affectionately compare the quarter with the "parlor" of Dresden.
There is a creative atmosphere here that invites you to stroll, look and linger. Nowhere else in Dresden are there so many artistic, craft, cultural, enjoyable and individual places so close together, pubs next to gourmet restaurants, second hand next to tailoring and artist studios next to museums.
The Dresden Residential Palace is located in the center of the old town. Rebuilt in the Neo-Renaissance style at the beginning of the 20th century, it was once the center of power for the Saxon electors and kings. From the Hausmannsturm you get an impressive overview of the roofs of the city. In addition to other exhibitions, the castle itself houses the "Green Vault", which is considered to be the most magnificent treasury museum in Europe.
Castles, bridges and vineyards line the picturesque waterway during a steamer trip to Pillnitz Castle and Park. The largest European facility in the chinoiserie style also impresses with the world's oldest camellia plant with its own high-tech glass house. In the Moritzburg hunting lodge, which can be reached very romantically with the "Lössnitzdackel", a nostalgic narrow-gauge railway, you can marvel at the world's largest collection of hunting trophies and the legendary feather room. A detour to the 180-year-old Saxon State Stud is also worthwhile.
The range of worthwhile destinations in the Dresden area is just as large as the variety of museums and sights. Old towns, rustic wine villages, extensive forests and a unique rocky landscape alternate.
A steamer trip on the Elbe is unique. The Elbe valley along the leisurely and meandering river is lined to the north by old wine villages. Saxony has been a traditional wine-growing region for more than 600 years. Today, guests are warmly welcomed again in the wineries.
Equally impressive is the Elbe Sandstone Mountains with their bizarre rock formations and table mountains - also known as Saxon Switzerland. Meissen, the more than 1000 year old city, is the Eldorado for all porcelain lovers. And the best thing about it is: all places and squares can be reached in less than an hour.
